Purpose

A role of the Portfolio Manager is to lead and mentor our team of Delivery Managers (DMs) within a fast-paced SaaS environment. This role is critical in driving successful project delivery, ensuring profitability, and fostering collaboration across departments such as Engineering, Product, and Finance. Reporting to the Head of Delivery, the Portfolio Manager will oversee pre-sales, delivery, and post-delivery processes, with a focus on maintaining high client satisfaction, resource efficiency, and continuous improvement.

A Portfolio Manager will be a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic, client-facing role, ensuring delivery excellence while championing professional development within the team.

Responsibilities

The role includes the following responsibilities:

Portfolio Management & Delivery Excellence

  • Oversee a growing portfolio of projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, profitability
  • Manage and mentor a team of Delivery Managers, providing guidance on project planning, execution, and client relationship management.
  • Act as the first escalation point for Delivery Managers and provide timely, actionable insights to the Head of Delivery.
  • Ensure standardization and adherence to established delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid).
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for innovation and efficiency in the delivery process.

Client Engagement & Pre-Sales

  • Supervise and support Delivery Managers during the pre-sales process, ensuring alignment with client requirements and project scope.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams (Engineering, Product, Finance) to develop comprehensive project proposals and manage risks effectively.
  • Maintain a well-documented risk and issue register to ensure visibility and informed decision-making by the Head of Delivery

Resource Planning & Post-Delivery Support

  • Lead resource planning efforts, ensuring proactive identification of resource gaps or bench time risks. Collaborate with the Professional Services Manager for resource allocation.
  • Oversee the hyper-care period post-delivery and manage the smooth transition of clients to a Business-As-Usual (BAU) phase.
  • Act as an ongoing Account Manager post-delivery, ensuring client needs are met and relationships are nurtured for potential upsell opportunities, client adoption rate

Leadership & Team Development

  • Foster a culture of mentorship and development, providing professional growth opportunities for Delivery Managers.
  • Identify and address training needs for ICs based on project requirements goals
  • Performance-manage team members as needed, aligning with company values and goals.
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing by documenting and disseminating lessons learned across the delivery team.

Skills and Experience

The role requires the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in portfolio management within a SaaS or consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Exceptional leadership and mentorship skills with a focus on team development and performance management.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment on project goals and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with a proactive approach to issue and risk management.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and ensure team proficiency in platforms such as MS Project, Smartsheet, and others.
